Most ESOS reports are never used again.

Many organisations invest significant time and money completing ESOS, only for the final report to be filed away and forgotten. The compliance box is ticked, nothing changes, opportunities are never implemented — and the same issues are identified four years later.

At Zerith, we believe ESOS should be the beginning of your energy improvement journey — not the end.

Beyond compliance

5 Dec 2027

Compliance deadline

Compliance is mandatory. Improvement is optional — and that's where the greatest value lies. Our ESOS Assessments identify practical opportunities that improve operational performance, not simply satisfy legislation. Recommendations are prioritised by cost, carbon reduction, operational impact, ease of implementation and return on investment.

What organisations ask us about ESOS

Does my organisation qualify for ESOS Phase 4?

You qualify if you have 250+ UK employees, or turnover above £44m and a balance sheet above £38m, assessed at the qualification date of 31 December 2026.

When is the compliance deadline?

Phase 4 compliance is due by 5 December 2027 — assessments are best started well in advance, as Lead Assessor availability tightens closer to the deadline.

Do I need a Lead Assessor?

Yes, unless ISO 50001 covers 100% of your organisation's energy consumption — in which case a Lead Assessor may not be required for that portion.

Will you need to visit our sites?

Site surveys are part of a thorough assessment, timed to minimise disruption to your operations and coordinated around your team's availability.

How much of our energy use needs auditing?

At least 95% of total energy consumption must be covered by the assessment under current ESOS requirements.

What happens after the report is delivered?

Unlike a standalone compliance exercise, your report includes a prioritised implementation roadmap so recommendations can actually be acted on, not filed away.
